What Lake Ashton carts need

Daily-driver batteries. A pack that gets cycled every day absorbs more discharge cycles per year than a weekend golf cart, and cycle count is what wears out lead-acid. On top of that, NOAA’s Winter Haven station counts 114.7 days a year at 90°F or above, and a closed cart garage runs hotter than the air outside. The rules inside the gate

Lake Ashton’s roads are community property, so the association’s rules govern day to day cart use. We could not find a published permit or registration document for the community online, so if you live there, the association office is the source for anything specific, such as a permit sticker or a minimum driver age.

Beyond the gate, Florida law applies. Under F.S. 316.212 a golf cart may run only on public streets the county or city has designated, and we could not find any such designation for Winter Haven or the surrounding Polk County towns. That means a sub-20-mph cart stays on private roads once it leaves Lake Ashton’s own property, unless it is a titled low-speed vehicle operating under F.S. 316.2122 on a street posted 35 mph or less.
